Council Meeting Minutes – September 21, 2017
Present: Rev. Steve Gordon, Nancy Rice, Ann Hall, Steve Bjordahl, Barbara Miner, Greg Todd, Darryl Gehring, Mary Helgeson, Kim Harris, Sally Phillips, and John Hauck via telephone.
Consent Agenda and Old Business: Barbara opened the meeting and Rev. Steve gave the opening prayer. Greg moved that the minutes be approved as printed; seconded and passed. John gave the treasurer’s report. The financial situation is similar to this time last year. The Kurdish family donations are a new line item, and the Cooper fund is being transferred to COG. The calendars were updated and it was suggested that the calendar should be posted for visual reference. Log deadlines are Oct. 20 and Nov. 24. Nancy presented a new bulletin board to show committee news and volunteer needs. Each committee is to keep their news updated.
Core Ministry Reports: Stewardship – Mary’s committee met with Rev. Andy DeBraber who gave them ideas to carry out during the year. She presented information on online giving and after some discussion the Council recommended to R & O that the plan be implemented. Mary will be taking 236 pairs of donated eyeglasses on her trip to Madagascar. Worship – Ann suggested that no committee have to serve coffee hour two times in a year; she and Barbara will set up a new plan. Christian Education – Nancy reported that the little library needs refurbishing. The Sunday School will be partnering with a nursing home for crafts, visits, etc. A bake sale this Sunday will benefit First Church, Houston TX, for clean-up buckets and tools. The Blessing Bags went to Boulder School. Youth – Kim needs volunteers to provide dinners on Wed. nights for 10-15 youth. They are at Mayflower on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. She listed plans for OWL classes and youth group activities. Mission & Outreach – Darryl requested a balance sheet listing for Apostles Build funds. A forum about this program will be presented. A Family Service shoe drive barrel is in the hallway. Neighbors in Need collection is Oct. 8. Resource & Operations – Steve suggested we buy the basic services from Spectrum which can be upgraded when wanted; council agreed. During the Fall Clean-up Day, the tree markers will be installed. Women of Mayflower – Ann noted the meeting on September 28, with Julie Bishop.
Barbara presented a “Request for Project Support” form for projects outside of regular committee work; council approved; it will be on the website. Mary gave a Family Promise update, noting the committees’ responsibility for certain days of the week on the sign-up board. The name of the person in charge will be noted at the top of the board.
Pastor’s Report: Rev. Steve brought up maintenance of Cameron Park. Kim will determine whether the youth could help, and a picnic for workers was suggested.
The meeting was adjourned by Barbara; Rev. Steve led in the closing prayer.
