Council Meeting—August 22, 2010

Present: Duane Anderson, Sue Barton, Phil Boggio, Rev. Ken Crouch, Mike Downing, June Genger, Rev. Steve Gordon, Audrey Jurovich, and Sally Phillips.

Following a meal at the home of our new moderator, Mike Downing, the September calendars were distributed and we had in informal discussion. Topics included suggestions for a goal setting (planning?) meeting in October, church evaluation, representation by the boards at council meeting, the prospective signage outside the church, and marketing of our church. The next meeting will be on Thursday, September 16 at Mayflower.

Council Meeting

Present: Duane Anderson, Rev. Ken Crouch, Mike Downing, June Genger, Rev. Steve Gordon, Judy Harbrecht, Mary Helgeson, Audrey Jurovich, and Betty Ranney.
The meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. with a prayer by Rev. Steve. Judy Harbrecht, Moderator, presided. The minutes of the June 17 meeting were approved.

Old Business: (1) Calendar Update—the attached August calendar was reviewed. (2) 50the Anniversary Celebration Update—will take place July 25 to include the church service with reception of new members and comments by charter members. New nametags will be issued along with other items prepared by Mike Downing using the new church logo. Jed Barton is preparing summaries from various members for display in the fellowship hall. (3) Annual Meeting—and a meal will follow the service including presentations by Linda Boggio, opening of the time capsule of 25 years ago (Audrey & Judy), nominations update, and sale of new mugs (free to charter members and new members). The proposed agenda for the meeting was reviewed. (4) Sexton report & recognition—Duane reported that a new sexton has been hired (Ron LaFontaine) to replace Mark & Shirley Ferguson who have resigned. They will be honored at a service on August 1. (5) LOG Deadline—is July 26, 2010.

New Business: (1) Treasurer’s Report—Duane presented the attached Balance Sheet & Budget Report noting that we are still operating on a deficit budget. Over $14,000 has been allocated for the new shed from members’ contributions. Work will continue on a new written check writing procedure. June (upcoming treasurer) will continue with this after their first meeting. (2) Planning Meeting/Potluck—for the upcoming year will be on August 8 following worship. (3) Core Ministries Reports—Stewardship—no report at this time. Worship—Betty presented their report; they had discussed possibilities in the services such as changes in music, alternative services, surveys of members about their ideas & views. Shepherding of new members and involvement in orientation were suggested. Patio service will be August 15; Youth Sunday will be Sept. 12 with the start of Sunday school. Resources & Operations—Duane said they will have a report on the roof in 1-2 weeks; Other concerns for the future include resurfacing the parking lots, working on the floor in the fellowship hall & kitchen, and checking on the value & possible insuring of the pictures in the fireside room (possibly with Jim Baken). Volunteers to help with the shed construction are needed. Christian Education—Mary reiterated that S.S. will begin Sept. 12. Units for communication between the sanctuary and the nursery are in need of repair; Rev. Ken agreed to take them to Radio Shack for evaluation. (4) Ministers’ Reports—Rev. Steve reported that the mission trip will leave July 17 and return July 24. He commented on health concerns of several members. Accolades were given to our outgoing moderator, Judy, for her great year!! Rev. Ken was very involved with the recent WRYE conference which lasted four days plus six days of meetings and preparation. Six Mayflower youth, and three adults attended; Mayflower hosted a group from California overnight before they departed from the conference. He has had two counseling sessions.
The next council meeting is Aug. 19. Coffee for August is Aug. 1, 8, & 15 (CE) and Aug. 22 &n 29 (R& O). Following a closing prayer by Rev. Ken, we adjourned.
